Bad Things Happen: Turning adversity into opportunity
“Here’s your opportunity to be great…” That’s what a former boss said to preface any odious project he was about to assign me. At the time, I dreaded hearing those words.
However, those very words can become an affirmation. No matter how carefully you steward your brand, unfortunate, unforeseeable things can go wrong. Bad things happen. In most cases, it isn’t what happens, but how you react to it, that affects your brand value.
So rather than hiding, running from or reinventing the truth when a negative situation occurs, think of it as an opportunity to be great.
When your focus is to give the best experience possible, customers are more likely to forgive and forget the bad things. Challenging yourself and your colleagues to take every opportunity to be great, will elevate your brand.
